TV platform : Tizen

For the second year in a row, coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut (used for HDR content) has dropped and we are now measuring 87% coverage, which is ironic considering that Samsung has made a lot of noise about its QLED models' capabilities in terms of DCI-P3 colors for HDR.

Black level (SDR): Calibrated 0.09 nits

Conclusion

In many ways Q90T (without One Connect) / Q95T (with One Connect) is a natural successor to last year's Q90R 4K flagship but it changes course significantly in one area. It is equipped with just a quarter of the dimming zones of 2019's Q90R. This affects brightness control and, unfortunately, overall picture quality as quantified and demonstrated in our review.

In other areas such as design, One Connect (Q95T only), Tizen, and remote control as well as other picture parameters, Q90T/Q95T is more or less a refined version of last year's Q90R. This includes an upgraded version of the Tizen operating system, which is still one of the better Smart TV platforms, although it occasionally stutters. It needs further optimization but the our main gripe is that Samsung still refuses to provide major software updates after purchase.

Q90T/Q95T is also well equipped for gaming, with low input lag, support for VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and FreeSync, and a single HDMI 2.1 port for next-generation game consoles and players.

Even though this is Samsung's flagship 4K TV for 2020, it is hard to think of it as anything but an amputated TV that has been pushed to the background to let the company's new 8K TVs shine. There is still a dearth of 8K content, and little to suggest that the situation will change in a significant way in the near future, so is an upgraded, no-compromise flagship 4K TV in 2020 too much to ask?

Q90T/Q95T has a lower starting price than last year's Q90R at launch. Nevertheless, we still consider the less advanced LED zone dimming system, and its overall negative effect on picture quality, too big of a compromise.

podswietlenie-samsung-50tu7102.jpg

-Lack of a wide palette results in high color reproduction errors in HDR mode, which means that 50TU7102 will show from its better side on materials with a standard dynamic range (SDR).

-When it comes to screen brightness, I measured the following values on a full-screen board:

maximum: 215 cd / m ^ 2 (50/50),
default 190 cd / m ^ 2 (44/50),
minimum: 10 cd / m ^ 2 (0/50).
As you can see, in SDR mode 50TU7102 is slightly darker than 55TU7102.

-In HDR mode on the 10% board, the maximum luminance after three minutes of measurement was about 286 cd / m ^ 2, which is a bit more than in 55TU7102 (262 cd / m ^ 2).

The brightness level of the screen suitable for home theater (approx. 120 cd / m ^ 2) ensures that the brightness setting is 31/50.

Summary

After testing two models of TV sets from the TU7102 series, i.e. 50- and 55-inch, I can say one thing: they are similar, but not identical. The appearance, operating system and multimedia capabilities are identical. Very similar are: black and contrast, brightness and straightforward color reproduction. Although 50TU7102 must acknowledge the superiority of 55TU7102 in color reproduction at an angle, it more than makes up for the loss of exemplary uniform black devoid of any brightness or cloudiness. And this is the reason why, facing the dilemma of "50 or 55 inches?" I'd rather choose a smaller screen. From my experience as a TV tester it is clear that the probability of encountering non-uniform backlighting decreases as the screen diagonal decreases. The case of the 50TU7102 and 55TU7102 models, which were not from the manufacturer's test pool,

Bottom line: Samsung 50TU7102 is a successful 4K budget-class TV that will perform very well in home theater conditions on SDR materials. I would recommend.

We unbox the Samsung Q950TS 8K QLED TV with "Inifinity Screen", and go through the picture settings in the user menu.

Our review sample is the 75-inch Samsung QE75Q950TS, model number QE75Q950TSTXXU which is the 3-pin-plug UK version.

This video was graded and uploaded in HDR10, and so is best viewed on an HDR display. Please let us know how it looks to you in the Youtube comment section below.

...the Q95T series is the top 4K model, with a Full Array backlight with local dimming of 15 x 8 (120) segments. That is significantly less than the 480 segments that we found on the Q90R (2019), although we also see that the Q95T is considerably cheaper than the Q90R . You see it better as a successor to the Q85R . More segments are now only available in Samsung's 8K models...

...The Q90T, Q95T and 8K models are equipped with a very good anti-reflection film and wide viewing angle. The new viewing angle film is a bit less compared to last year but still delivers a good result. The viewing angle is now closer to that of Sony's X-Wide Angle. From 20-30 ° you can see the gamma value drop, making midtones a bit brighter. In extreme HDR images, the zone boundaries become more visible. The color reproduction remains very good. The screen temperes reflections well, but they do get a somewhat wider smeared effect...

75"...[hdtvtest.co.uk]...Samsung QE75Q950TS review

We review the Samsung Q950TS flagship 8K QLED TV with "Infinity Screen" design & Object Tracking Sound Plus (OTS+) speakers. Topics covered include contrast performance, local dimming, colour accuracy, motion handling, video processing, HDR, as well as input lag for gaming.

Our review sample is the 75-inch Samsung QE75Q950TS, model number QE75Q950TSTXXU which is the UK 3-pin-plug version.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mY4z2vjQ7S4

QE75Q950TS: VA + viewing angle compensation film (tweaked from last year),RGB - vertical stripe,+antiglare filter.

Native ANSI blacks was 0.073 cd/m2(nits), if peak white was set at 120 cd/m2 with local dimming set to Low.

with local dimming set to Standard (the relevant zones switched off) ,Native ANSI blacks was 0.001 cd/m2(nits), if peak white was set at 120 cd/m2.

Local dimming could not switch off from user menu.

F.A.L.D. : 30 vertical columns x 16 horizontal rows = 480 dimming zones.

Samsung local dimming algorithm continues to favor minimizing blooming or haloing artifacts and keeping letterbox bars inky black, but shadow detail would also be slightly crashed compared to reference, and there were some backlight flunctuations.

Up close we are talking less than 5" away the Samsung Q950TS exhibited a mosquito net effect at certain shades due to the use of sub pixel rendering to widen the viewing angle .Whether this technique still reproduces true 8K resolution is up for debate ,but at least the effect was not visible from normal viewing distance ,which begs the question "Is there any point for 8K resolution if you are going to watch a 75" screen from 10 feet away?"

For HDR ,peak brightness measured 1504 cd/m2 (nits) on a 10% window after calibration to D65 white point and 375 cd/m2 (nits) full field.

DCI-P3 color gamut coverage :96% uv (aka QLED=quantum dot enhancement film)

I tested the TV in hardware version No. 1 (Version No: 01).

QE55Q74T (QE70T series):

...As in the 65Q74T, the remote control is made of metal, and this is where the Q74T series differs from the "ordinary" Q70T (the one with a plastic remote)...

...When it comes to luminance, the TV was clearly brighter than the 55Q64T, because in full screen mode I measured the following values:

default 223 cd / m ^ 2 (65Q74T: 254 cd / m ^ 2),
maximum: 463 cd / m ^ 2 (65Q74T: 557 cd / m ^ 2).
The recommended brightness level for SDR home theater (approx. 120 cd / m ^ 2) is set to brightness at 17/50.

As you can see, 55Q74T has lower luminance than 65Q74T. This was also confirmed in HDR mode.

In the HDR mode on the 10% board, the maximum luminance after three minutes of measurement was 478 cd / m ^ 2.

HDMI - 4
USB - 2
Ethernet - 1
Optical - 1
Headphone - 0
Bluetooth - yes

Summary

Well, no need to beat around the bush. The Samsung 55Q74T is a successful all-round TV suitable for both TV and home cinema, sports and games. This TV set has high contrast, high sharpness of moving images (120Hz matrix) and above-average HDR, which are features of a mid-range TV. In short, I recommend it.

Several reports have all but confirmed that Samsung will launch its first Mini LED TV among its 2021 QLED TV lineup. The first is an online presentation given by Mr Bob O'Brien, Co-Founder & President of DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultants), at the OLED World Summit 2020 earlier this week.
