Toshiba’s new dynaPad is a 12 inch 2-in-1 tablet with a Wacom pen
Microsoft reveals Toshiba dynaPad, a stunningly thin 12-inch Windows 10 tablet with Wacom pen

http://www.neowin.net/news/microsof...thin-12-inch-windows-10-tablet-with-wacom-pen

Toshiba’s 12.5 inch convertible Satellite Radius 12 isn’t the company’s only new 2-in-1 Windows PC. The company also introduced a new dynaPad tablet in Japan.

The tablet has a 12 inch display and a detachable keyboard dock. But it’s stand-out feature is probably its support for pen input. The Toshiba dynaPad comes with a Wacom Active Electrostatics TruePen with support for 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity.

By comparison, the new Microsoft Surface Pro tablet has a digitizer and pen that supports 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity. I suspect casual users won’t notice much difference when scribbling hand-written notes, but this could make the Toshiba dynaPad a better option for artists.

The tablet has a 1920 x 1280 pixel IPS display with a dual-layer coat of anti-reflection and anti-fingerprint material.

The dynaPad weighs about 1.25 pounds, while the tablet and keyboard combined weigh in at about 2.2 pounds.

Microsoft says the dynaPad goes up for pre-order in Japan today, but it’ll also be available in the US and Europe in the first quarter of 2016 (although I suspect it might have a different name — Toshiba tends to use the “dyna” name in Japan, while labeling its international products with names like “Satellite”).

Other features include an Intel Atom Cherry Trail processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, a microSD card slot, micro HDMI port, and two micro USB ports.

Acer Aspire Switch 11V SW5-173-614T Convertible Review
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Aspire-Switch-11V-SW5-173-614T-Convertible-Review.152710.0.html

Pro

+ high-quality, solid casing
+ swift SATA SSD
+ storage capacity with HDD
+ IPS screen with wide viewing angles
+ USB 3.0
+ fast HDD in dock
+ high brightness in AC mode

Cons

- keyboard's hard feedback
- comparatively short battery life
- slightly dimmed brightness in battery mode
- poor webcam / microphone
- risk of falling: tablet sometimes accidentally unlocks from dock

Verdict

A total rating of 76 % does not seem to point to a premium convertible; the former Switch 11 Pro (128 GB + HDD dock) achieved the same rating. Rivals like Asus' Transformer Book T300 Chi convertible hold tight to a rating of 83 % and block the top lists. By the way, the Top 10 convertibles presently range from 83 to 85 %.

However, quite a bit has been modified although not enough. The casing is now stiffer, of higher-quality and thinner. The screen is considerably brighter and has a higher contrast. Unfortunately, the keyboard is not really better and using the touchpad is sooner painstaking than zestful. Acer treats its 11 incher to a rear-facing camera, but the photos are unfortunately virtually useless. The hard drive in the dock has been clearly accelerated via USB 3.0, but Acer regrettably does not use the available room for additional ports, such as a second USB Type A or a standard SD card reader.

The computing power of the Core M is decent and creates a work-suitable system alongside the swift SSD. The Celeron or Atom newcomers for 300 to 500 Euros cannot compete with that.

Potential buyers will discover that a convertible from this performance category with a good FHD IPS screen, USB Type A and hard drive in the dock is not found in any rival despite this apparently low rating. Asus' Transformer Book T300CHI is certainly the hottest contender that is available starting at 715 Euros in the FHD version. The WQHD version costs almost 950 Euros. The T300CHI features an outstanding, extremely thin casing (7.6 mm!), and both its keyboard and touchpad are better. However, its keyboard dock does not provide additional features (no hard drive) or ports; USB Type A like in Acer's review sample is not installed.

HP Pro Tablet 608 G1 Tablet Review
http://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-Pro-Tablet-608-G1-Tablet-Review.151273.0.html

Pro

+ quality build
+ high-end screen
+ optional LTE
+ sensor set including NFC
+ good WiFi at close range
+ docking port and accessory range

Cons

- gets hot under load
- performance average under load
- eMMC SSD has average performance
- no USB-C adaptor
- WiFi quality drops-off at short distances

Verdict

For such an expensive tablet we were a little disappointed in the performance scores but maybe that's OK because it's not where the HP Pro Tablet 608 G1 is targeted. The great screen, strong battery, good accessory range, Windows Pro, 4GB RAM and good communication options are valued greatly in the vertical markets where this tablet is targeted. If we had been sent a pen and keyboard case we could have done more to highlight some of the intended usage scenarios but hopefully there's enough in the review here to help you decide if this Windows tablet fits your requirements.

Build quality appears to be very good and there's a good selection of modules, NFC for example, that make the price justifiable. Of course this isn't targeted at consumers but there could be a few travelers out there that could justify buying this and the keyboard case for extremely lightweight off-the-grid work.

The great screen, strong battery, good accessory range, Windows Pro, 4GB RAM and good communication options are valued greatly in the vertical markets where this tablet is targeted.

HP should throw in a USB-C -> USB 3.0 adapter / OTG cable with the Pro 608 G1 and considering the digitizer layer is already available on the tablet and that Windows 10 has extended pen support it would make sense to add that to the package. While business customers will be putting in bulk orders and receiving discount the package needs improving for professionals that are going to be investing in a single purchase.
There aren't many alternatives in the 8-inch Windows tablet market, especially as the Lenovo Thinkpad 8 is getting harder to find in the market. The rumored Dell Venue 8 pro 5000 and recently announced HP Envy 8 Note might be worth considering but depending on accessories, probably won't hit the same target as the HP Pro Tablet 608 G1.

Our overall score of 78% is averaged across a number of categories but if pure processing power is not your aim with the HP Pro Tablet 608 G1 then it's possible that a score based on your own requirements would be much higher. Watch out for heat though.

Και νέα πρόταση απο Samsung
Ativ Book 9 Spin convertible
http://liliputing.com/2015/11/samsu...o-ultrabook-ativ-book-9-spin-convertible.html

The Spin is the model I’m more interested in. While the starting price is a bit steep, it looks like a pretty major upgrade from the Samsung Series 9 ultrabook I bought in 2012.

The new model has a Core i7-6500U Skylake processor, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of solid state storage, and a 3200 x 1800 pixel touchscreen display that you can flip back all the way for use in tablet mode.

While the new model packs a lot more power than my aging laptop (or the Ativ Book 9 Plus models that Samsung has released in the past few years), it’s still a pretty compact machine, measuring about 0.6 inches thick and weighing 2.9 pounds.

It also has a backlit keyboard, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, stereo 2 watt speakers, three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI output, a microSD card reader, and a battery that Samsung syas should be good for up to 7.3 hours of run time.

Έσκασε και το πρώτο αναλυτικό review απο τις νέες προτάσεις στην CES 2016

ThinkPad X1 Yoga

Lenovo advertises the "world's first convertible with an OLED display." The ThinkPad X1 Yoga is actually the first one. Critics might note that the step from an OLED tablet like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 to an OLED convertible was not very hard, but the ThinkPad X1 Yoga is equipped with a 14-inch screen, so it is much bigger than the tablet counterpart. The OLED screen has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and supports touch inputs, just like the tablets. Lenovo also offers IPS touch displays with 1920x1080 or 2560x1440 pixels.

The ThinkPad X1 Yoga uses processors from Intel's Core i7 vPro series (6th Gen). You can integrate up to 16 GB RAM as well as a 1 TB PCIe-SSD. The LTE-A module is optional. Similar to the predecessors, you also get an active stylus. The ports include three USB 3.0 ports, OneLink+, MiniDP, HDMI, microSD and a touch fingerprint scanner. The ThinkPad X1 Yoga will be available in January 2016 starting at $1450.

Specifications:

Είναι απαιτητική η αμερικανική αγορά; Πρώτη φορά το ακούω. Μεγάλη ναι, αλλά απαιτητική;

Acer Aspire R13 R7-372T Convertible Review
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Aspire-R13-R7-372T-Convertible-Review.158791.0.html

Pro

+ bright, high contrast IPS display

+ FHD resolution

+ RAID 0 support

+ good workmanship

+ good input devices

+ long runtimes

+ Thunderbolt 3

Cons

- no Recovery DVD

Verdict

Thanks to the new Skylake processor, the Acer Aspire R13 R7-372T outperforms its Broadwell predecessor. The CPU offers more than enough performance for various daily tasks. The integrated GPU and the RAM running in dual-channel mode make gaming possible, although restrictions still apply. The convertible doesn't get very hot and remains fairly quiet as well. The RAID 0 SSD array guarantees a very fast system and short application load times.

Although the new Aspire R13 is essentially just the product of regular model maintenance, Acer managed to execute this update very well indeed.

The Skylake model improves upon the already very good display the Broadwell Aspire came equipped with and offers increased brightness and a substantially higher contrast ratio. Both displays make use of IPS technology and feature very good viewing angle stability. The compelling package is further improved by the good input devices and the long battery life. The Thunderbolt 3 port offers new expansion capabilities

HP Spectre x360 15 ap011dx Convertible review.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/HP-Spectre-x360-15-ap011dx-Convertible-Review.159134.0.html

Pro

+ strong performance under stress; no major throttling
+ relatively bright, high quality touchscreen with deep contrast
+ thin and sleek design with strong build quality
+ lightweight for a 15-inch notebook
+ relatively easy maintenance
+ USB Type-C 3.1 Gen. 1
+ generally low fan noise
+ extra-wide touchpad
+ long battery life

Cons

- weak GPU performance; no dedicated GPU options
- still on the heavy side even for a 15-inch tablet
- only one level of keyboard backlight brightness
- display backlight not powerful enough to overcome direct sunlight
- no secondary storage options
- unimpressive speakers; poor bass
- finicky integrated mouse keys
- ULV Core ix options only
- no NVMe SSD options
- RAM not expandable
- no Thunderbolt 3
- no NumPad

Verdict

Our experience with 15-inch convertibles has been a mixed bag up until the launch of the Spectre x360 15. Both the Toshiba Satellite Radius 15 and Lenovo ThinkPad S5 Yoga 15 had a few redeeming qualities, but case quality and weight dragged them down to be nothing more than just subpar notebooks with a novel tablet mode. Last year's Envy 15 x360 suffered from heavy weight and a horrendous display despite the better build quality.

This is why the Spectre x360 15 is such a relief as HP has proven that it's possible to make a good 15-inch convertible where its tablet functionality isn't an afterthought. The manufacturer has carefully scaled up from the the Spectre x360 13 with resounding success as the 15-inch Spectre truly feels like a system built around its tablet mode to encourage multi-mode usage. There's little to complain about the notebook from a quality perspective as this is probably the best Spectre notebook yet.

Problems arise when you start comparing the Spectre x360 15 to "proper" 15.6-inch multimedia notebooks. The fact that a convertible must be super thin and lightweight means sacrificing CPU and GPU performance with fewer expandability options. The HP falls apart if gaming and raw performance are priorities. Thus, users with little or no interest in the convertible's tablet mode will find that standard notebooks in the same price range tend to have better longevity and hardware capabilities in comparison.

The Spectre x360 15 is the best 15-inch convertible around, but not necessarily the best 15-inch multimedia notebook. Power users may find themselves disappointed in its raw performance prowess while light to medium multimedia users will find a lot to like in terms of versatility and battery life.
