Welcome to the boards!
The page you linked doesn' t mention anything about 1080p through HDMI.
This maybe a mistake but I am not sure.
This is a very nice buy in case it supports 1080p.
It is an important feature in order to play a lot of video content.
Maybe another member will replay to you as well.

I found that EG-R3A will be released soon, may be this is a good choice.

The player/recorder you mentioned (EG-R3A) seems perfect to me!
It supports almost all formats your friend may need in order to watch any video out there.
In addition, it supports all resolutions available including the highest possible for consumers (1080p)
I believe you wont regret such a purchase!
Unfortunately, I have never ordered a thing from W2COMP.com
I think they will not cheat on you and it would be a safe option to preorder from that store.
