*Cool CD for Lalo Schifrin fans! World premiere release of flavorful western score for John Sturges picture starring Clint Eastwood finds composer offering one of his most exciting, evocative soundtracks of an amazing career. Main theme is tentative melody with somewhat muted harmonies underneath. Idea grows in considerable strength during course of score. Dynamic action cues get spotlight numerous times as well. Spanish-tinged motifs add further strength to musical tapestry! Intrada presents complete score from pristine condition multi-track stereo session elements courtesy Universal Pictures. Another cool asset: CD features complete cues, where picture sometimes truncates them! Highly informative liner notes by Schifrin authority Nick Redman plus "flipper" covers showcasing both original Universal/Malpaso campaign as well as dramatic "spaghetti" western approach complete exciting package. Play the album, read the notes, pick your cover! Lalo Schifrin conducts. Intrada Special Collection release available while quantities and interest remain!*

"O you out there, inside your tiny little barge,
eager to listen, following behind
my ship that, singing, crosses to deep seas,
Don't set out into the deep, for fear that, perhaps,
losing sight of me, you be left adrift.
The waters that I sail were never crossed before
Athena inspires me, Apollo is my helmsman.
And the nine Muses show me the Bear Star".

“La notte” is a salute to Italian filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni, whom Ketil Bjørnstad counts amongst his formative influences. “At the same time that I discovered what jazz could be, after listening to Miles Davis’ In A Silent Way, I also saw the films by Godard, Bresson and Antonioni. Perhaps it was the slow, rhythmic authority in the films by Michelangelo Antonioni that made me think of music... As long as visual art creates music in our minds, and music creates pictures and visual expressions with the same intensity, the two are deeply and profoundly interdependent”.
This album, then, can be considered “the soundtrack to an inner film”, in which Antonioni’s images and atmospheres are translated and transformed through personal moods and memories. (http://player.ecmrecords.com/ketil-bjornstad---la-notte/home)
