If the load impedance drops to 4Ohm, the power will double; at 2Ohme the power quadruples and so on, until the amplifier cannot deliver any more current or dissipate no more heat. This permits us to define an input voltage, not an input power to rate the sensitivity.</p><p></p><p>The sensitivity rating is nowadays given (or should be given!) in number of dB SPL /2.83V /1 meter. For example a particular speaker may have a sensitivity rating of 92 dB SPL/2.83V/meter.
