In their major sale under their overall deal at Warner Bros TV, former Mad Men executive producers Andre and Maria Jacquemetton have teamed with Gravity producer David Heyman for a drama series based on the DC comic book DMZ, which has landed at Syfy. Written by the Jacquemettons, DMZ is set in the near future and centers on a young man trapped in Manhattan, which has been turned into a demilitarized zone (DMZ) after a second American civil war.
The comic book series, created by Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli, was launched by DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint in 2005 and ran until 2012 for a total of 72 issues. The TV adaptation, now in development adavid heymant Syfy, hails from WBTV’s cable division, Warner Horizon, as well as the Jacquemettons’ Slim Chance Prods. banner and Heyman’s Heyday Films. Another colorfully titled pirate show enters the fray.
Michael Bay's Black Sails may soon get some swashbuckling company on the small screen.
Maggie Q, who recently headlined The CW's Nikita, is about to transition from espionage to piracy in a new limited series titled Red Flag, reports Deadline.
Red Flag will be set in the 19th century and star Maggie Q as historical figure Ching Shih, a Chinese prostitute who became a veritable pirate queen. Ching Shih went on to lead the most successful crime syndicate in Chinese history, comprised of over 100,000 sailors and more than 1,500 vessels. She faced the Imperial Chinese navy, Portuguese navy and formidable British navy during her campaign to control the South China Sea and defeated them all.
Maggie Q is already experienced leading spies. How about buccaneers?
Concerning the project, Maggie Q said, “It’s exciting to have the opportunity to share Ching Shih’s real-life story with audiences that are both familiar and unfamiliar with her prominent history.”
The project is currently being shopped to networks. Whoever ends up with the show, the rags-to-riches story and opportunity for plenty of action should make Red Flag an exciting prospect for television audiences.

Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh transformed New York’s Lower East Side back into a turn-of-the-century slum last week in order to film scenes for “The Knick,” his new 10-episode series for Cinemax.
For the shoot, the director gave Orchard St. a detailed 1900s makeover, including a bagel and knish salesman, straw-covered streets, horses and carriages and laundry draped over fire escapes.
Soderbergh and his crew, who have a reputation for turning in their work on time and under budget, literally turned back the years overnight for a scene ripped from the early 20th century. Set in downtown New York in 1900, “The Knick” centers on Knickerbocker Hospital and its groundbreaking surgeons, nurses and staff, who push the boundaries of medicine in a time period of astonishingly high mortality rates and no antibiotics.

AMC AND SONY PICTURES TELEVISION TO DEVELOP PREACHER AS A DRAMATIC SERIES ON AMC
NEW YORK, NY and LOS ANGELES, CA – February 6, 2014 – AMC and Sony Pictures Television today announced an agreement to develop Preacher as a dramatic series on AMC. Based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s twisted 90’s comic book series, the project will be executive produced and written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (This is the End). Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) will serve as executive producer and showrunner.
Preacher follows Reverend Jesse Custer, a tough Texas preacher who has lost his faith, has learned that God has left Heaven and abandoned His responsibilities. He finds himself the only person capable of tracking God down, demanding answers, and making Him answer for His dereliction of duty. Accompanying Jesse on his journey is his former girlfriend and a friendly vampire who seems to prefer a pint in the pub to the blood of the innocent. On his tail is one of the most iconic bad guys in print – an immortal, unstoppable killing machine named the Saint of Killers – a western lone gunman archetype whose sole purpose is to hunt and kill Jesse.
