Τι λέτε γι αυτό;
http://www.acryan.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=188&Itemid=48

AC3 Dolby Digital 5.1 (passthrough & downmix to stereo), DTS (passthrough), DTS-TrueHD (passthrough), DTS Master Audio (passthrough)

Τα passthourh σήματα μπορώ να τα πάρω μόνο με ενισχυτή από το hdmi;

Επίσης ποιο media player υποστηρίζει 24p; Έχει παρατηρήσει κανένας σπασίματα στην κίνηση σε media players που δεν υποστηρίζουν 24p;

Re: Απάντηση: Νέο media player AC Ryan Playon!HD

Dear Friends, this is an official compilation of frequently asked questions regarding the Playon!HD compiled by AC Ryan Team Rotterdam. Should you have further questions, we are happy to answer them. You can reach us at : [email protected].

Please link to / bookmark this FAQ using this link: http://www.playonhd.com/faq
This way, if the document changes hosting location (currently on Google docs, but could be moved), the http://www.playonhd.com/faq link will always go to the correct Official FAQ.

  1. Digital Audio

    1. Does Playon!HD support Dolby Digital (AC3)?
Yes, Playon!HD supports Dolby Digital (sometimes known as AC3 or DD5.1) Downmix to Stereo (output via HDMI, Composite, SP/DIF Coax, SP/DIF Optical TOSLink) and Dolby Digital Passthrough (SP/DIF Coax, SP/DIF Optical TOSLink, HDMI)
    2. Does Playon!HD support DTS?
The Playon!HD supports DTS Digital Passthrough via SP/DIF (SP/DIF Coax, SP/DIF Optical TOSLink, HDMI*). For DTS Downmix to stereo, please see the next question.
      * please note your equipment (eg. TV, AV processor) connected via HDMI need to have DTS decoding ability function in order for you to enjoy to DTS audio via DTS passthrough
    3. Does Playon!HD support DTS Downmix to Stereo
The Playon!HD will support DTS Downmix in a firmware release in the coming months. Exact date is currently not yet known. More information about the release will be posted on our blogs and on this FAQ.
    4. Why do you not list DTS Downmix support in your specifications?
Because in this firmware that is in the shipping Playon!HD, DTS Downmix has not yet been implemented. A few recently announced new players which are not yet shipping have listed DTS Downmix in their specifications, because that is in "future" when their player ships. AC Ryan Playon!HD is currently shipping and owners will have DTS Downmix in future with a firmware upgrade.
  2. HDMI

    1. Does the Playon!HD support 1080p / 60Hz?
Yes, the Playon!HD is a Full HD player, and fully supports 1080p / 60Hz
    2. Does the Playon!HD support 1080p / 24HZ?
Yes, the Playon!HD is able to output video at 1080p / 24Hz for TVs which are able to display 1080p / 24Hz mode. Kindly select HDMI auto and set your TV Display at 1080p / 24Hz mode. 24Hz is technically a lower refresh rate than the higher 50Hz and 60Hz but has been specially adopted by some televisions to match the 24fps (frames per second) that most Blu-ray movies are produced in.
    3. Why is the 1080p / 24Hz setting not seen on the HDMI settings in the setup menu?
Beta versions of the Playon!HD firmware had the 1080p / 24Hz setting as one of the selections. However, in pre-shipping user tests, many general users were confused by the 1080p / 24Hz setting as most TVs do not have this setting. From the user test feedback, we moved the 1080p / 24Hz setting into HDMI-Auto setting so that when a TV supporting 1080p / 24Hz is connected and set on 1080p / 24Hz, the Playon!HD will automatically be set at 24Hz.

NOTE: We have since received many user requests to have the 1080p / 24Hz setting specifically available in the setup. It is very likely that the 1080p / 24Hz setting will be back in the setup in the next firmware.

    4. Is HDMI cable included?
All Playon!HD are delivered with FREE AC Ryan's HIFX Evolution ValuePack HDMI 2m cable. This is a quality HDMI cable that is CERTIFIED, performs to HDMI's latest 1.3a/b/c specifications, sleeved, gold-plated. At PlayonHD.com, with some resellers and also with special offers, you may be able to upgrade to premium extreme-quality HIFX Evolution Retail Packed HDMI 2m cable.
    5. Is there a difference in quality of HDMI cable?
While the effect of cable quality is not as visible for digital transmission as compared to an analog, a poorly constructed cable loses digital data easily resulting in more error re-transmission and this in turn means it may not be able to keep up with the high data transmission required by high definition audio and video. The result is often no display or "blocks" in your display. This becomes more important as you go higher in resolution. AC Ryan cables are priced to be affordable for quality and extremely quality cabling, and comes with more than 16 years of quality cabling design and manufacturing experience. All AC Ryan cables are CERTIFIED. While that does not mean that you should buy the most expensive cables, you should simply go for reliable CERTIFIED cables.
    6. Can Playon!HD display simulteneously more screens each on its various video output connectors?
Yes, you can connect 3 TV screens each on the HDMI, Composite and Component video output.
The Composite ouput will display in PAL/NTSC (auto) irregardless of resolution settings in the Playon!HD. This means you can set Playon!HD at 1080p/60Hz for your LCDTV connected on HDMI, and on your Composite output you can connect a 2nd (cheaper? older?)TV screen irregardless what resolution it supports. For Component output, the output will be in the resolution set in the Playon!HD.
  3. Does it play ...

    1. MKV file with embedded subtitles?
      Yes
    2. MKV file with separate subtitles files (.SRT, .ASS)?
      Yes
    3. AVCHD (.mts/.m2ts) files used in high definition camcorders?
      Yes AVCHD .mts/.m2ts are supported
    4. DVD file with menu?
Yes DVD files can be played with menu navigation (as per normal like a DVD) - both IFO (as it is in DVD) and ISO (ripped DVD).
    5. Blu-ray file with menu?
Navigation menu with Blu-ray file and Blu-ray ISO is currently not supported. This feature has been planned in a firmware upgrade.
    6. Blu-ray video?
Yes, Blu-ray video .m2ts can be played.
    7. AIF/AIFF audio files?
Yes and no. Music files exported from iTunes can be played by simply renaming the file extension from .AIF to .AIFF (we will add in support for playing .AIF file extension in future firmware upgrade). If you want to be sure, email us your file [email protected] and we will reply if it plays.
    8. FLAC 24/96 (24bit / 96KHz)?
Yes. Playon!HD plays FLAC 24bit / 96KHz audio files, considered by some as high definition "Studio Master Pro" audio quality.

About FLAC - FLAC is the most popular "lossless" audio - it compresses without removing any data, while most mainstream popular formats (MP3, WMA etc) achieves smaller more portable files by dropping data that according to the audio professionals "cannot be heard by human ears". But for archiving / backup purposes you may not wish to lose data, that's when a lossless format is very useful and the most popular is FLAC.
    9. List of supported formats

  4. About the Playon!HD player (physically)

    1. Does the Playon!HD have a hard power switch? (I do not see a hard power switch at the back)
Yes, the Playon!HD can be powered off fully. The Playon!HD is powered down to standby using the remote control power button or the front power button. To hard power off the Playon!HD fully, press and hold the front power button.
    2. In standby mode, is the harddisk powered down?
In standby mode, only a dim red LED is lighted (much like a television on standby), the fan and harddisk are off in standby mode.
    3. How fast does the Playon!HD turn on from standby?
The advantage of standby mode is that the Playon!HD turns on fast (3 to 5 seconds) from standby mode.
    4. What is the size of the Playon!HD
Wdith: 202mm, Depth: 169mm, Height: 61mm. The Playon!HD is less than half the size of standard DVD players, and slightly larger than a 3.5" external harddisk
  5. UPNP

    1. Can Playon!HD work with MediaMall's Playon* mediaserver software? (www.themediamall.com/playon)
We have tested our Playon!HD with Mediamall's Playon - works well. Once you install the software on your PCs (you can install them in all your PCs and you will see them all on Playon!HD), you will find it in Browser -> UPnP. You can stream your own media library as well as internet video. Currently Mediamall's Playon provides these content - Youtube, CNN, CNN, Money ESPN, Hulu (USA only), Netflix (USA Only), Amazon VOD (USA only), CBS (USA only)

*Footnote about AC Ryan Playon! (Playon!HD, Playon!DVR) and MediaMall Playon
Mediamall's Playon software and our AC Ryan Playon! hardware product line is a pure coincidence in both companies naming their products at about the same time (great minds think alike?) in 2008. Both companies have briefly spoken and with goodwill in mind, do not object to each other's use of the Playon name since there would be minimum confusion - one is a hardware, one is a software. Furthermore, both company uses different logos, and AC Ryan's Playon! can differentiated with an exclamation mark. It's cool that both products actually work with each other.

    2. Can Playon!HD work with Tversity mediaserver software? (www.tversity.com)
We have tested our Playon!HD with Mediamall's Playon - works well. Once you install the software on your PCs (you can install them in all your PCs and you will see them all on Playon!HD), you will find it in Browser -> UPnP. Tversity streams your media library, has a built-in transcoder (so even media unsupported by Playon!HD can be streamed from Tversity), supports RSS media feeds, Youtube, Picasa, Flikr etc. The Pro (paid version) also delivers premium content such as Hulu (USA only), BBC iPlayer (UK only), complete list of premium content here.

    1. Is the Wireless-N USB Adaptor included?
No, the Wireless-N USB Adaptor is not incl. It is sold separately
    2. When will the Wireless-N USB Adaptor be available?

Yes, you can use your Playon!DVR / Playon!DVR TV Wireless-G USB Adaptor with Playon!HD. These Wireless-G USB Adaptors are based on Realtek chispet. Playon!HD supports any Wireless-N/Wireless-G USB Adaptor with Realtek chipset.
    6. What wireless security encryption is supported?
      WEP, WPA / WPA2, WPA-TKIP, WPA-AES
    7. Does Playon!HD support peer-to-peer wireless connection with my computer without using a router?
Yes. In this case you should set up the IP address manually as there you have no router in this newtork connection to automatically assign network settings. Is Network settings automatically configured?
Network settings is automatically configured by your network router (DHCP for automatic IP, Gateway, DNS settings). You can also manually set network settings in the Playon!HD setup menu (eg. to override auto settings assigned by your router, or when you connect peer-to-peer with your notebook without a router). [note: answer is same for wired and wireless Network]
  7. Network

    4. Can I connect multiple Playon!HD to each other, example one in each room?
Yes, when they are all hooked up to network (wired or wireless), you will be able to stream from any Playon!HD to any other Playon!HD in the network. You can also copy/move files between the Playon!HDs from any of the Playon!HD in the network.
You can also connect via USB Host so one Playon!HD is the "master", while the others act as an external HDD. But this is mainly for the purpose of copying / moving a lot of files fast (faster than network) from one Playon!HD to another. For the multi-room scenario, network is still the recommended solution.
  8. Language

    1. Does it support Greek characters in Greek subtitles?
      Yes, Playon!HD supports Greek characterset

    2. Does Playon!HD support Arabic?
Not yet - no worries, Arabic will be supported. Arabic will be in extended language editions of firmware.

  9. Internal Harddisk
    1. Does the Playon!HD support internal harddisk?
Yes, the Playon!HD supports all brands of 3.5" SATA/SATA2 internal harddisk
    2. What is the maximum capacity of the internal harddisk supported?
The Playon!HD officially supports all harddisks up to 1.5TB (thoroughly tested). 5400rpm / 7200rpm / 10000rpm harddisks are supported and tested. As for 2TB harddisk, we have tested 1 2TB harddisk available in the market and it works with Playon!HD. We shall wait for more types/brands of 2TB harddisk to be available before confirming support for all 2TB hardddisks.
    3. Can I install a 2TB HDD in Playon!HD?
We have tried one brand of 2TB HDD, it works. If you have a 2TB or wish to try it, please feel free to try it. There are no risks. Do feedback to us, so we can share your experience with other users too. Do share your experience in the community too.
    4. What is the format used by Playon!HD's internal harddisk?
The internal harddisk format is NTFS. This is because NTFS supports files larger than 4GB while FAT32 does not. An important point for HD media since some HD video files are easily larger than 4GB.
    5. Does Playon!HD support read+write NTFS?
Yes, Playon!HD support read+write NTFS. Internal and external harddisks with NTFS is supported. Besides playing media, you can copy/move to and from these NTFS harddisks.
    6. Does Playon!HD support FAT32 file system?
Yes, Playon!HD supports FAT32 file system, read+write. Mac users may wish to have FAT32 file system. You can create a FAT32 partition using a partition manager/editor software on your computer.
    7. Does Playon!HD support multiple partitions?
Yes, Playon!HD supports supports multiple partitions. Although the internal formatting utility only formats one main data partition as NTFS. You can create more partitions using a partition manager/editor software on your computer.
    8. Can I install a harddisk with existing data into the Playon!HD as its internal harddisk?
You can, but your data will be erased. Once you install a harddisk (new or old, with or without existing data) and power up your Playon!HD for the first time, you will be asked for confirm to have your harddisk formatted. At this point you can proceed or stop. The harddisk needs to be formatted because Playon!HD will create hidden partitions (total of about 300mb only) for the system use (eg. buffering). You will not see this system-use hidden partition on the Playon!HD or on your computer. The main data area is formatted as NTFS.
    9. When I connect Playon!HD to my computer with USB and check Disk Manager, why do I see 3 hidden partitions in addition to the main NTFS partition?
The hidden partitions are created (total about 300mb) and used by the Playon!HD system eg. buffering for smoother network streaming when there is inconsistent speed in the network. Do not edit or delete these 3 hidden partitions.
  10. USB2.0

    1. Can the Playon!HD be connected to my computer via USB?
Yes, you can connect your Playon!HD as a USB slave via the USB2.0 port on the side. USB2.0 cable is included. Your Playon!HD will appear as an external USB harddisk on your computer. This is useful for large transfers (esp. 1st transfer to load the Playon!HD with content) as USB2.0 is faster than network connections. Any computers which can support external USB harddisk will be able to connect the Playon!HD as a USB external harddisk.
    2. Can I connect my external harddisk to Playon!HD?
The Playon!HD has 2 USB2.0 Host ports on the side. You can connect external USB harddisk, USBsticks. Playon!HD supports NTFS and FAT/FAT32 formatted external drives
    3. Can I connect a USB Hub?
Yes, you can connect a USB Hub which lets you connect MORE external drives!
    4. Can I play media from a USBdisk?
Yes, you can play audio, video, photos directly from USBdisk. The Playon!HD has 2 USB Host ports, and you can connect more by using a USB Hub. ps. Have you checked out our AC Ryan Diskje? - the smallest, thinnest usbdisk - waterproof, shockproof - available in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB
    5. Can I connect a USB DVD Drive?
Yes, you can connect an external USB DVD Drive. The Playon!HD will be able to play un-encrypted DVD discs. Unencrupted DVD discs that can play on your computer, will be playable on your Playon!HD. However, this is not the recommended way to enjoy your DVD content on Playon!HD. The best way is to backup your DVD disc onto harddisk with a DVDdisc backup software on your computer (search the internet for many such DVD backup freeware or shareware available). Once your DVD disc is backup on your harddisk, you can easily transfer them to Playon!HD and enjoy discless movie marathons without changing discs or worry about losing your DVDs.
    6. Can I connect a USB Blu-ray Drive?
Currently external USB Blu-ray drive support is not tested.
    7. Why are the USB ports on the side?
The design of the player takes into consideration the location of permanent connections (seldom plugged in and out) and temporary connections (more often plugged in and out). USB host, USB slave and cardreader slots are located at the side for the convenience of users. The Playon!HD supports a built-in harddisk which is expected to be the main storage media for the Playon!HD. The external USB storage would then mostly be temporary. These temporary connections would benefit from an easier access (at the side). We decided not to locate them in the front as the that would require an open/close front cover which are not preferred in our user survey. The permanent connections (network, audio/video, power etc) are located behind.
  11. Other operating system / compatibility

    1. Does Playon!HD work with Mac?
      Yes, as external USB HDD

Yes, stream/play/copy (to and from) using Playon!HD (Windows file sharing must be enabled)
Yes, UPnP streaming (UPnP server software must be installed on Mac, freeware/shareware are easily found by searching internet)
    2. Does Playon!HD support UPnP?
Yes, UPnP Client is implemented in Playon!HD
    3. Does Playon!HD support DLNA?
Currently No, DLNA is not yet implemented
  12. Misc

    1. Does Playon!HD support Firmware Upgrade?
      Yes
    2. Is Playon!HD opensource?
Playon!HD contains public domain source code licensed under GNU General Public license. These GPL/LPGL source code will be released for download on our website. What this means in plain language is that there will be source codes for download. However, there are proprietary source code from commercial companies, most importantly Realtek source codes which are not released as Realtek does not release them. From our long experience working with Realtek based products, they have not been releasing their source and are unlikely to do so. Without the Realtek source, there will be limited things that you as a coder can do. It has been tried. As far as we can see now, this has been, is, and will be the case with Realtek-based players/recorders - this is as real as it gets. The solution is that we are intensively doing firmware development on Playon!HD (and also Playon!DVR) and will be releasing firmware upgrades. The upside of this is that you will have new extra features by doing a simple firmware upgrade instead of searching, downloading, installing multiple third-party add-ons, and your system's stability will not be affected by third-party crashes. We are actively listening to all feedback, suggestions, wishlists from reviewers, respected members in the community, Playon! owners, and all friends who have taken the time and effort to support Playon!. In the coming weeks/months, we will be releasing more information about what Playon!HD extra features are being planned/worked on as soon as they are more ready. We have shown we delivered a good player Playon!HD, and ahead of anyone else. With your support, we will turn the good player into a greater player. In the meantime, keep the suggestions coming (in email, in forums, in blogs - we are listening) - thanks, we appreciate it.
    3. Does a player with no built-in HDD save more energy?
Players with no built-in HDD are a) playing movies from an external harddisk or b) streaming from another device eg. PC.

      a) Playon!HD energy consumption = Playon!HD + internal HDD in Playon!HD

      b) Player with external HDD energy consumption = Player + External Casing* + internal HDD in External Casing
      * yes, the external casing itself consumes power too

      c) Player streaming from PC = Player + PC + internal HDD in PC
